Nagarkot Hiking via Changunarayan

Nagarkot Changunarayan Hiking is an excellent day tour on the outskirts of Kathmandu valley and a get away from the hustle of the city. The hiking is accompanied by the amazing villages that are more amazingly not affected by the city so close that they still practice the traditional way of living. This hike features both religious and natural aspects. We start the trip with a drive from Kathmandu to Bhaktapur after breakfast and walk or drive further to Changunarayan. The hike begins from Changunarayan, the oldest of pagoda style temple in Nepal and a UNESCO Heritage Site. We hike up to Nagarkot via beautiful forest and the unpopulated landscapes. As we go higher the path gets accompanied by the Himalayas in a distance and the path itself fairly leveled. The first part being more of natural we come to the second phase of more of cultural encounter. Passing through the Tamang village and its beautiful terrace fields surrounding it, we come across the beauty of traditional practice of housing still done in the village so close to the city. The houses made of local stones, painted with ochre and thatched are very pleasant to watch. The practice of garden nearby for vegetables and an animal shed by the side of house makes it more of a remote feeling. moreover, the traditional practice of homemade wine is more than appreciated by everybody who tastes it. As we pass through the village and the terrace fields we come to our final destination Nagarkot.
